Today’s project: This bedroom was wallpapered with gak! It did cover some bad plaster, and the seams were well adhered.
We stripped the paper from the rear wall which peeled pulled big gaps of old paint from the plaster. That required much skim coating.
Our solution for the other walls (Thank you Brian Box for the suggestion!), was painting the wall paper with an oil based primer, mudding the seams, then painting over. This technique looks like it’s going to work great. While it’s pretty labor intensive, it’s not as intensive as stripping then repairing old plaster.
